Scene of the Ceremony
On the morning of March 9th, the grand opening ceremony for overseas students in the spring semester 2017 was held in the Lecture Hall of Yifu Building in TFSU. Present at the ceremony were the principal Xiu Gang, the relevant persons in charge of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and International Exchange Institute, as well as the teachers who will instruct overseas students. The opening ceremony was hosted bilingually by Hou Ying, director of the Chinese Language and Culture Department, International Exchange Institute, and Bao Rui, a postgraduate of Grade 2013.
The ceremony was kicked off by the video of Zeng Ziru, who won the champion in Europe and the second place of the world for the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in 2016. Zeng Ziru is an outstanding student of grade 2015 in the university, who has won a scholarship to the Confucius Institute. When the students heard that Zeng Ziru had started his Chinese learning with “ni hao,” they were deeply inspired and shouted the slogan in chorus “Study in TFSU, Love IEI (International Exchange Institute), let our dream fly, and create brilliance together,” expressing their expectations for the life in TFSU.
In his speech, Xiu Gang extended a warm welcome to all overseas students who had come to TFSU. He also extended his special welcome to the 67 Pre-University College students in this semester, including those entrusted by the Tianjin municipal government and sent by the British Embassy. He expressed the hope that the international students could take TFSU as their home, study hard the Chinese language and culture, experience Chinese culture, introduce their own cultures to China, and be a messenger for transnational communication. In the end, he hoped that all the students would get a higher academic degree through studying in TFSU, and make clear their direction in the future.
On behalf of the teachers, Zhu Jing-ji delivered a Chinese-English bilingual speech, hoping that students should listen more, practice more and feel more in TFSU, in an effort to get more knowledge of Chinese culture and the language of Chinese. The teachers of TFSU would do their best to help them.
In his speech, Denis expressed the hope that he had always taken TFSU as his second home, and considered himself an out-and-out guy in the university. He thanked the university for providing a broad platform, and thanked to the teachers and students for their enthusiastic help to overseas students.
In this semester, TFSU has received more than 400 international students from more than 50 countries, including the United States, Russia, South Korea and so on. While the International Exchange Institute has offered 17 courses of different levels, the institute will offer an addition of 11 cultural optional courses to meet the personalized learning needs of foreign students. At the same time, it will integrate the management system and training program for foreign students taking refresher course, undergraduate students and graduate students, strengthen the teaching management, and work hard at improving teaching levels. The institute will make its contribution to the development of the university.
