On 14th April, the opening ceremony for overseas students of Spring Semester 2108 was held in the lecture hall of Yifu Building, TFSU. Present at the ceremony were the principal Chen Fachun, vice-principal Yu Jiang, relevant persons in charge of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and International Exchange College, and the teachers representing those who would teach the overseas students. The opening ceremony was hosted bilingually by Hou Ying, director of Chinese Language and Culture Department, and Zhou Lide, an undergraduate of Grade 2016 from the United States.  

The ceremony was kicked off with the competition video of Zeng Ziru, who won the champion in Europe and the second place of the world for the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in 2016, and the teaching practice video of Deng Yuan Jinjiang, a student working on a master’s degree in the school, and the video, entitled “A Foreign Featured TFSU Student” made by Denis, a graduate student of Grade 2016. The overseas students had high expectations for the upcoming study and life in TSFU.

In his speech, Chen Fachun first expressed a warm welcome to all the students for their arrival, and hoped that the students would cherish the precious opportunity in TFSU, explore the infinite charm of Chinese, understand China and experience Chinese culture, in an effort to become an international envoy to bridge the friendship between the two countries in the future. He mentioned that there might be differences among different countries and cultures on the international campus, so students should respect each other, differ in harmony, seek common ground while reserving differences, and create a harmonious learning and living environment together. Finally, he repeatedly told the students to abide by the laws and regulations of China, comply with the rules and regulations of the school, and spend every day in a safe and happy way.

Gu Qian, the teacher's representative, hoped that the overseas students would get into the learning state as soon as possible, and get along well with each other. The teachers of the school would do their best to provide students with all-round help in learning and life.

Yu Zhen, on behalf of overseas students, thanked the Chinese government for its scholarships, thanked the school for providing a broad platform for the overseas students, and thanked the teachers and students of TFSU for their warm welcome and help for the overseas students. She hoped that the overseas students could take TFSU as their home, and entertain themselves while studying in the university.

After the opening ceremony, a police officer from Tianjin Public Security Bureau surnamed Li explained to the overseas students the legal provisions for their entering and leaving China.

In this school year, more than 430 students from more than 50 countries, such as Japan, Korea, the United States, Russia and other countries, will conduct their Chinese language learning at different levels in TFSU. The International Exchange College has carefully designed the courses for them. After a strict placement test, they have adjusted the setting of the parallel classes according to the students' actual learning needs, by adding 1 intermediate level class on the basis of the original 14 refresher classes at different levels, and offering 8 elective cultural courses to meet various learning needs of the overseas  students from different countries. At the same time, the college has revised the management system and training programs for the refresher students, undergraduates and postgraduates, and absorbed and introduced advanced teaching ideas and management models. They will scientifically offer courses and strengthen their teaching management, and work hard at improving the teaching levels, and striving to contribute to the international development of the university.
